5 Quick Wins to Boost Your AI Visibility Score

Actionable steps you can take today to make your website more visible to AI search engines.

1. Unblock AI Crawlers in robots.txt

This is the single highest-impact change you can make, and it takes under five minutes. Open your robots.txt file and check whether you have rules that block AI crawlers. Look for lines like "User-agent: ChatGPT-User / Disallow: /" or broad "User-agent: * / Disallow: /" rules without exceptions. Add explicit allow rules for ChatGPT-User, PerplexityBot, ClaudeBot, and Googlebot. Also add a Sitemap directive pointing to your XML sitemap. This one change can unlock your entire site for AI citation.

2. Add JSON-LD Schema to Your Homepage

If you do nothing else, add Organization schema to your homepage. This tells AI engines who you are, what you do, and establishes your entity in knowledge graphs. Include your company name, URL, logo, description, and social media links. Then add Article or WebPage schema to your top 10 most-visited pages. You can do this manually with a script tag, through a CMS plugin, or let AgentReady auto-generate it. Schema on even a few key pages dramatically improves your AI readiness score.

3. Rewrite Your Opening Paragraphs

AI engines extract answers from the beginning of your content. Go through your top 10 pages and make sure the first 200 words directly answer the main question a visitor would have. Do not start with background, history, or context — lead with the answer, then elaborate. This "answer-first" pattern is the single most important content structure signal for AI citation. Think of it this way: if an AI only reads your first paragraph, would it have a useful answer to give its user?

4. Create a Basic llms.txt File

Create a text file called llms.txt and upload it to your web root. In it, write 2-3 sentences describing your business, list your 10 most important pages with URLs, and note what topics you are an authority on. This takes 15-20 minutes and immediately makes your site more understandable to AI models. No special formatting required — just clear, plain text. This emerging standard is quickly becoming as essential as robots.txt was in the early days of search.

5. Add FAQ Sections to Key Pages

FAQ sections are AI gold. They match the question-and-answer format that AI naturally works in, and they provide concise, extractable answers. Add 3-5 FAQs to your most important pages — use real questions your customers ask. Better yet, wrap them in FAQPage schema markup so AI engines can parse them as structured Q&A pairs. This improves both your Content Structure score and your Schema score simultaneously. You can use HTML details/summary elements or simply format them as a list of questions and answers.
