We stumbled on this finding accidentally. While analyzing our scan database for the State of AI Readiness report, we noticed a pattern that seemed wrong: the most visually impressive, professionally designed websites were consistently scoring lower than simple blogs and minimal sites.
So we dug in. We cross-referenced AI readiness scores with estimated website build costs (using publicly available agency pricing data, technology stack complexity, and design sophistication as proxies). The result:

Why a $500 Blog Outscores a $50K Corporate Site
The developer building a personal blog on Hugo makes choices that accidentally optimize for AI readiness.

The average Hugo/Eleventy blog in our database scores 71/100 on AI readiness. The best one scores 93. It cost its owner approximately $12 per year in hosting and took a weekend to build. It is more AI-visible than 96% of the websites in our 5,000-site benchmark study.
