Schema Markup & Structured Data
How JSON-LD structured data helps AI engines understand and cite your content.
What We Test
AgentReady scans every page on your site for JSON-LD structured data — the machine-readable layer that tells AI engines exactly what your content is about. We check whether schema markup is present, how many pages include it, what types you use (Article, Product, FAQPage, Organization, etc.), and whether the JSON-LD is valid and error-free.
Why It Matters
When ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Google AI Overviews generate a response, they need to understand content quickly and accurately. Schema markup acts as a cheat sheet — it tells AI models the topic, author, publish date, product details, and relationships between entities on a page. Sites with rich structured data are significantly more likely to appear as cited sources in AI-generated answers because the AI can confidently extract facts without guessing.
How Scoring Works
Schema makes up 25% of your overall AI Readiness Score — the single largest category. You earn points for having any schema at all (+20), for coverage across pages (up to +30), for using diverse schema types like Article, FAQPage, Product, and Organization (up to +25), and for validity — ensuring your JSON-LD parses without errors (up to +25).
How to Improve
Start by adding JSON-LD to your most important pages. At minimum, every page should have a WebPage or Article schema. Add Organization schema to your homepage, Product schema to product pages, and FAQPage schema wherever you have Q&A content. Use Google's Rich Results Test to validate your markup. AgentReady's paid plans can auto-generate schema for your entire site.
